HDTV Home Theater

Watching films in a movie theater is still a special experience. The wide and huge screen, the razor sharp picture and the overwhelming sound which takes you right into the action are features which are extremely attractive. Despite all technical improvements TV didn't come anywhere near it. But with the advent of HDTV there for the first time is really the possibility to create a home theater which deserves the name and which will develop into a fierce competition to movie theaters. Especially these three features contribute to this effect:

  • When broadcasted in HDTV movies come in a real widescreen format. That means for you that the picture fills the whole TV screen and there is no annoying letterbox, this term denoting the familiar two black bars at the upper and lower end of the screen. Prerequisite is, of course, that you own a HD ready or HD capable TV with 16 : 9 aspect ratio.
  • With a resolution of 1920 : 1080 or 1280 : 720 the sharpness of the picture doesn't have to fear the comparison with movie theater viewing. If you haven't seen a real HDTV broadcast yet your jaw will drop when you watch one for the first time. Aside from the still considerable greater screensize you won't feel much of a difference to cinemas.
  • The developers of HDTV soon found, that it wouldn't make much sense to provide a quantum leap in terms of picture quality with no respective improvements in sound quality. That's why HDTV comes with standard Dolby Digital 5.1 or even 7.1 surround sound. All you have to do to be able to enjoy it is providing adequate sound box set up.
